Rimrooms — Async Industries

A company-management campaign for RimWorld about contract work beyond a gate.

The things Rimrooms adds to the build menu, what each one is for, and what you need first.

What you can build

Rimrooms adds its own buildings, one floor and one item. None of them is required. Every job below can also be done with something the base game already ships, and a colony that never builds any of it works exactly the same.

They are here because the company has its own kit, not because the mod stopped working without it.

Power and light

BuildWhereWhat it doesNeeds
company utility generatorPowerWood-fired. More output than a standard set for the same footprint, and it eats and breaks for itElectricity
emergency cutoffPowerA sealed stop switch on a conduit run. Opens the circuit exactly as an ordinary power switch doesElectricity
liminal fluorescent fixtureFurnitureA long strip light. Throws a wide flat pool down a corridor instead of a bright circleElectricity
site marker beaconFurnitureA small amber light, meant to mark a spot rather than light a roomElectricity

The generator is the trade worth reading twice: more watts, more wood, more breakdowns. A branch running one is usually a branch that could not reach a grid.

The fluorescent you build is the same fitting that lights every coordinate beyond a gate. The ones down there are fitted, run off the place itself and are worth nothing taken down; the one you build draws power like anything else of yours.

Gate equipment

BuildWhereWhat it doesNeeds
company gate consoleMiscA working communications console that can also be bound to a gate as its control stationMicroelectronics basics
field analysis benchProductionA work table that can be bound to a gate as its assembly benchMachining

Neither replaces the ordinary version. An ordinary communications console and an ordinary machining table still do these jobs, and always will.

Building one settles a choice rather than creating one. If you have exactly one of the company's own, the gate takes it without asking, however many ordinary ones are standing nearby.

Field kit

BuildWhereWhat it doesNeeds
field recorder and radioProductionStand it beside a field analysis bench and that bench works faster. One per benchMicroelectronics basics
survey tagMiscA marker you set and give a meaning, read the same way as a glow pod—
sealed evidence caseFurnitureStorage that accepts recordings and journals and nothing else—

The survey tag differs from a glow pod in the one way that matters underground. A glow pod is alive and dies on its own schedule. A tag does not.

The evidence case is worth it for what it refuses. A shelf will take whatever a hauler decides belongs there; a case will not, so what is inside it is always what it says it is.

All three are one cell and can be uninstalled and carried, so a crew can take one through a gate and set it down on the other side.

Floors

BuildWhereWhat it doesNeeds
faded institutional carpetFloorsThe straw-coloured wall-to-wall carpet the places out there are floored withCarpet making

Same cloth cost, same research and same cleaning penalty as any other carpet. What is ours is the surface.

Made at a bench

MakeWhereWhat it is
company field journalfield analysis benchA blank paper journal. Take it out empty, write it in the field, bring it home as the record

The company also posts these out to a branch that has a gate and none. Making your own is the faster route if you have a bench.

The journal has a numbered cloth cover and cream pages, with matching closed, open and upright views. It is a real book: pawns can carry and read it, and the company's notes stay with that physical journal.

A note on which way things face

The company console, utility generator, analysis bench, field recorder, evidence case and survey tag now rotate, with distinct front, back and side artwork. The analysis bench turns from a wide two-cell counter to a one-cell-wide, two-cell-deep counter. Leave room at its operating side for a pawn to work.

Gates use the real doors you build and designate. Supported footprints are 1×1, 1×2, 1×3 and 2×3, including turned orientations; adjacent ordinary doors can be bound into a wider gate. Their size does not create another workbench or change the equipment you can build here.

Designated gates have matching company frame trim for these four sizes. The real doors keep their opening animation and access rules. You can hide the trim with Show company gate frames in the mod settings. A frame indicates designation, not whether a connection is currently open.
